What's in a name?

Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of - for credit is like fire; when once you have kindled it you may easily preserve it, but if you once extinguish it, you will find it an arduous task to rekindle it again. The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.
SocratesGreek philosopher in Athens (469 BC - 399 BC)

Sharline is derived from Charlotte which
Is of French origin, and its meaning is "little and womanly".
My father went to France on his mission and so 3 out of 4 of his girls are named after French names that he liked. The spelling is different than the way that most people with the same name have. It think it is a lot better than Charleen, Charlene, Sharlene, etc... It makes me be one of a kind. I do not personally know anyone who spells it the same way that I do, but I am sure there are those that exist. It is not a popular name by any means, but that is okay by me.
Most people call me Shar and I really don't know how I got that nickname but have been called Shar since college. Growing up I mostly went by Sharline. My mom called my Sharlybean, my dad called me Henry or Heinrick (that was because I asked what I would be named if I would have been a boy and we happened to be at the cemetery looking at My Great Great Grandpa Thomas Henry Jones grave at the time) My friends called me Sharweenie, why I do not know. That was when I was in Junior High. I never thought about disliking my name, but sometimes wished I had a different name when I was younger. Now I really like it! I think it sounds elegant. I will have to ask my parents again why they picked my name because now I am curious.
It was fun to read about everyone elses names. Thanks for sharing!

Oh where oh where have the Turner's been?

We made it back home after spending a wonderful week with family and friends over in Utah. First of all the weather was just great, not too cold, not to windy, and just perfect for us Californians who freeze most of the time when we go there. We did have to wear jackets though.

We made it up to Justin's parent's home friday afternoon, just in time for the kids to head out on a little adventure with Grandpa and Dad. We don't know what we would do in Parowan if the Gap didn't exist. (The Gap is a series of hills or mountains, whatever you want to call them, that are west of Parowan and famous for Indian writings.)

We then headed up to West Valley City on Saturday after getting a good nights sleep. We got up there just in time to color Easter eggs with our cousins and thanks to grandma and Aunt Cor we had plenty of eggs to color. We dyed them, tie dyed them, and made them sparkle with glitter. We even were able to put stickers and write on them if we wanted to. Then it was off to the big hunt in my parents back yard. It is a great backyard for an Easter Egg Hunt. Grandpa hid eggs in trees, by the wood pile, in the raspberry bushes, in the planter boxes, and all over under the deck where there is all kinds of junk. The kids had a blast and very full baskets. Tyler even stayed out back longer to find all of the eggs that no one else found with Grandpa and dad, lucky him. He was just so excited to have eggs, now he will carry them around for a couple of weeks. We may even have to have a few suprise hunts in our home.

Monday we went to the Hogle Zoo with my parents. It was so much fun. We got to see the new baby orengatang, giraffe, and, mihr cats. They were so cute. The Orengatang played in one corner and kept putting a bucket on its head, it the other corner was the mom dead asleep on its stomach. We were wondering if she passed out because she was so tired. Maybe we all need to be put in a cage with our kids and we can lie face down in the hay just to get a little more sleep. Only with my luck my kids would just keep jumping on me. At least this baby just played quietly with a bucket. Poor Mackay woke up with a fever this morning but was a champ to walk through the zoo all day. He was extremely tired by the time we got home and crashed on my parents couch. He was burning up the next day so we just let him relax on the couch while I visited my Grandma and Justin took Tyler to the park and out to lunch.

Wednesday we relaxed in the morning and packed up for our return to Parowan. We stopped in Saratoga Springs and visited with our friends the Carricks. Their house is looking good and their basement is almost finished. It was fun to be with them and the boys just loved seeing Gavin and Colin their boys that are the same age. They talked us into staying for dinner and we had a hard time leaving, but made our way down to Parowan by 10 p.m.

For the next couple of days we slept in ate a late breadfast and then headed out in the hills for some great adventures. It was so much fun and very beautiful in its own way. We found a crystal mine and filled up our pockets, or I should say our kids filled up our pockets with all kinds of rocks. We climbed rocks, slid down mountain sides, built little fires, and did a lot of hiking. The kids were great troopers. Most of the time they hung back with Grandpa and Justin and I did the exploring.

Saturday we spent our time making it back to good ole Ridgecrest and wondering what our lives would be like if we lived in Utah. After listening to all of our phone messages we were wishing we were still on vacation, but time to get back to living life.

Not much to say

Do you ever feel like there just isn't much to say? Well that is how I often feel. There is always so much going on around me, but I really don't know how to comment or what to do most of the time. I think a lot of it is that I just get busy in my own little world and am just content with what is going on, or maybe not so content, but what is there to say about that unless I complain about what is going on and then that just makes me feel worse so it is just better that I didn't say anything in the first place. Well I am just blabbing on, but that is how I feel about this week. Not much went on and it really doesn't seem like there is much to talk about, so I will leave everyone with that. Here are a couple of cute pictures of my kids that I will include so this doesn't seem like a totally senseless blog entry!
What would we do with out dress up, or make believe!

I am not a ghost!

I really don't have too much to write about this week. I had a fever and sat on the couch for 2 days, so I am really feeling unproductive for the week. Luckily, I am feeling much better!!!
Mackay had Junior Olympics at school on friday and did a pretty good job at running, throwing, and jumping. He also brought home his 4th happy gator (I certificate for obeying the rules for the week) in a row. Quite an accomplishment if I do say so.
Tyler almost has writing his name down, but still has trouble with that pesky letter y. He loves to cook and almost made cookies for us this week all by himself, or at least he thinks he did. After mixing up the dough we were placing it on the cookie sheet and Tyler would disappear and then reappear. He said, "Mom, I just disappeared" and I asked, "Well, where did you go?". He just looked at me happily and said, "to Hawaii", so I asked, "Why didn't you take me", and he replied, "your not a ghost". So I guess that I am not a ghost! Really he was sneaking cookie dough and disappearing so that he could go and eat.
Today Mackay was wearing his spiderman outfit and playing outside. I was working on my Primary Sharing Time and it sounded like someone was running on the roof. I went outside and there was Mackay up on the roof. I asked him how he got up there and he told me that he climbed up our antenna pole, which was the same way that he got down. Crazy kid. Anyway, now he thinks he is the real Spiderman. I wish that I would have taken a picture, but once again I didn't have the camera handy.

What a week!

I thought this week would be a breeze, not much was planned which was so nice. Monday after straightening the house and doing the necessary things I indulged and sat for an hour and read a book. Amazing! I don't do that very often because I feel so guilty doing it. I have to admit it was so nice. The house was quiet and I was able to drink some tea (herbal of course), and kick back on the couch. Sounds nice doesn't it. Then the kids came home and the peace and quiet was gone and the afternoon became pretty crazy. Mackay must have been tired and moody because I wasn't going to let him play or do anything until he read to me. He got mouthy so I sent him to his room to rest for a little bit. When he came out he took of his shirt and threw it on the ground and yelled, "That's it I'm getting a tattoo". I of course just laughed and then said, "What is that going to prove". Pretty crazy!
Tuesday I put myself back to work, I must have been ambitious because I decided to paint the front family room. So I moved all the furniture and got busy. In fact, I was able to get the whole room pretty much done by the time Tyler got home from Joy School. When he got home he painted on part of the wall I had just painted with the color that I was painting the baseboards with. It was much lighter. Luckily my friend Ronelle was around when he did it so I didn't get as mad at Tyler as I probably would have. So thank you Ronelle for keeping me in check. Anyway I tried to wipe that up, but still had to paint over it. Oh well it is all good! I remember a church commercial from years ago when a little boy spills a whole picnic table of food and the mom didn't get made just sighed and made a face. I wish I was more like that because most of the time I just get mad. That is too much of a confession, sorry!
Anyway the rest of the week was just a blurr. I don't really remember what happened. I did help out in Mackay's class on Wednesday and Thursday I went for a walk, because the weather was so nice.
Friday we had Mackay and Tyler's friends Jack and Jeffrey over. It was so nice because they entertained each other so well. Since the weather was so beautiful playing in the backyard has been so nice. They kicked balls around, only two went into the neighbor's yard. We were able to retrieve those easily. The we made paper airplanes and they threw them around for awhile. We couldn't pass up playing Lego Star Wars II, because they were all so addicted. They even took turns so well while I made dinner. It was great. So thanks Kathryn!
This morning I actually slept in until 7 a.m. (that is late for me, just so you know). It was nice. When I came up to our family room Mackay was laying on the couch and Tyler was hiding behind it. Tyler said, "Mackay told me to go back to where I came from." I asked, "Where he came from?" he replied, "you know from my grandparents." I actually didn't know that but thought it was pretty funny.
This morning we had an awesome breakfast, Strawberries on waffles with ice cream and a strawberry syrup. It was so yummy! Probably too much like a dessert though. Oh well, sometimes you just got to live on the wild side.
Well that is our week in a nut shell. I wish I would have had a video for you for Mackay's little episode and a picture of Tyler's painting job, but who knew that Mackay would say what he did and taking a picture of Tyler was an after thought. Oh well, I will just have to keep that in my own picture archive in my brain.
